Disgraced former attorney sentenced to nearly six years in prison for litigation advance fraud scheme - Department of Justice

Image
ATLANTA - Chalmer "Chuck" Detling, II, a disbarred attorney, has been sentenced to prison after being convicted by a jury of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Without their knowledge or authorization, Detling used his clients' identities—sometimes repeatedly—to obtain dozens of fraudulent litigation advances, totaling over $400,000. "Detling betrayed the trust of his clients, business associates, friends, and family, all to steal money," said U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine. "This tough but fair sentence should remind those considering similar behavior about the consequences of those decisions, especially licensed professionals who are considering exploiting their clients in a time of need." "Detling violated the trust of the clients that hired him and used his position as an attorney not to pursue justice, but to pursue a fraud scheme for personal gain," said Philip Wislar, Acting Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta. Fortunately, retailers are starting to make it easier to close the loop by offering clothing take-back and even resale programs. Those that are particular about brand or condition often allow clothes to have a second life as clothing, while programs that accept anything, although convenient, rarely result in the highest use of returned items. Use this list to help you find the best option for your old clothes. S ome programs have paused during the pandemic. Call the retailer to confirm that the program is active before making a trip to the store.   Brand Specific, Wearable Levi...

12 Times You Should And Shouldn't Send Back Your Steak - Mashed

Image
You should send back any dish if it's cold, but steak is specifically at risk since it has to rest for a certain amount of time. The chef might have forgotten all about it. And if the steak doesn't rest after being thrown on the grill, a lot of juices (ones that give it good flavor) will escape once you cut into it. According to WebstaurantStore, the minimum time for resting the meat is 5-7 before cutting into it. A thick cut of meat should rest for at least 10-20 minutes. For each inch of thickness, you have to add 5 minutes for resting. The goal is to ensure the center of the steak is cool enough so the juices can be reabsorbed into the meat. During the cooking process, these juices become constricted. When you cut into a steak that hasn't rested for enough time, these juices will pool beneath your steak. However, if you let meat rest for too long, it will go from juicy and beautiful to cold and unappetizing. If that happens, it's your right to send it back and ...

The Return Of The Hot Aughts: Why We Still Can't Get Enough Of Y2K Fashion - The Zoe Report

Image
What would Paris Hilton do? That's the question Marianne Mychaskiw asked herself at the very beginning of the pandemic, when the world was thrown into a state of utter confusion and turmoil and fear. The answer: Juicy Couture tracksuits — and lots of them. The 33-year-old beauty copywriter unearthed the ones from her youth, and once she wore her decades-old set, she couldn't stop; she needed more Y2K fashion. It cushioned her from the world outside her apartment door, enveloping her in rainbow-bright velour and the comforting embrace of nostalgia. "Being an adult doesn't mean you stop wearing Juicy tracksuits — it just means you pay for your own," she says. "It made me happy to lean into that [early 2000s] expression because it's nostalgic and comforting for me." When it comes to defining exactly what the early 2000s aesthetic entails, the consensus is this: Juicy Couture tracksuits, a lot of skin, body-hugging silhouettes, low-rise everything. ...
