Caprese salad at The Pink Door. | Sabra Boyd There's something about dinner theater. Laughing raucously with strangers, the drama of the kitchen mirroring the drama of the stage, sitting back with a piece of cake at the end and enjoying the unpredictability of it all. Seattle is the place for dinner theater, especially in historic locations. Gaze above at aerial ballets as you eat your bolognese at The Pink Door, or take in a dazzling cabaret as you enjoy the spiced rum cocktail aptly named Lola's Coconuts at the Can Can. For zero-proof options, the Can Can offers the Aurora Elixir Fizz, a refreshing effervescent yuzu-orange blossom mocktail infused with herbaceous hops. Best of all, the show doesn't have to stop at dinner theater. Head to drag brunch in the morning because, after all, the show must go on. Read More Note: Res...

A CNBC analyst's reaction to the surprise news that the country's gross domestic product shrank by 0.9% went viral on Thursday as the dismal figures confirmed that the US is now in a recession, according to the definition commonly used by economists. "Oh, my gosh," CNBC analyst Rick Santelli said, scrambling to collect his thoughts in the moments after the surprisingly weak GDP data was released early Thursday. "Not only was I wrong, down nine-tenths of 1% on first look at second-quarter GDP — down nine-tenths of 1%." "OK, I know there's an organization that decides whether we're in a recession or not, but investors are not going to wait," he said. "Two back-to-back negative quarters, it's not good, call it whatever you want." CNBC's Rick Santelli's real-time reaction to the latest GDP data went viral on Thursday. CNBC The Commerce Department announc...

Google Translate is finally able to translate Sorani Kurdish.  The search engine announced yesterday that it added 24 new languages to its digital translation service, including the Sorani dialect of Kurdish and various African, Indian and Native American languages.  Why it matters: Sorani is spoken by about eight million people in parts of Iraq and Iran, including the autonomous Kurdistan Region in Iraq and the Kurdistan province in Iran. It is the first language for many Kurds in the two countries, but is also spoken by Arabs, Turkmen, Assyrians, Chaldeans and others. The most spoken dialect of Kurdish is Kurmanji, which predominates in Turkey and Syria. Kurmanji is spoken by around 15 million people, and was already available on Google Translate. Sorani is written in the Persian alphabet, whereas Kurmanji uses Latin characters.  Kurdish speakers demanded the inclusion of Sorani in Google Translate for years.  Many Ku...

They are the ever-timeless, ever-versatile foundation of any wardrobe, no matter how you would describe your personal style. For a seemingly basic item of clothing, there are infinite different combinations of fits, hems, washes, and details. Plus, they're designed to last. Slipping on a beloved, well-worn, comfortable pair of jeans can feel like coming home after a long vacation. Unfortunately, however, there's typically one catch: the price tag. Quality denim can often be on the expensive side, and even though you'll ideally wear a good pair of jeans for years to come, it's still hard to justify the cost. That's where Old ...

Lewes continues to define short-term rentals - CapeGazette.com

Rental companies seeking to differentiate their vacation rentals from services like Airbnb and Vrbo may not be getting their wish following a July 14 meeting in Lewes. Gallo Realty and Jack Lingo Realtor have been renting vacation homes in Lewes for decades, and according to Adriane Gallagher, manager of Gallo's Lewes Rental Department, most guests stay for about a week. Airbnb and Vrbo offer rentals for as little as one night on their platforms. Moving forward, the city's short-term rental ad hoc committee will follow Delaware code's short-term rental threshold of 119 days or fewer. Officials believe the final number of days to define a short-term rental will be lower, but Commissioner Winnie Kee pointed to a successful lawsuit against the Town of Fenwick Island, where plaintiffs cited Delaware code's 120-day threshold in their arguments. Councilwoman Carolyn Jones, chair of the committee, agreed Lewes should err on the side of caution to avoid lawsu...

The No-Till Farmer Influencers & Innovators podcast "Dick Foell and the No-Till Tigers" that aired on July 20 prompted some additional questions of the Dick Foell (now retired in California) a major cheerleader of no-till on the national stage in the 1970s and 1980s and one who was called the "Godfather of the Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC)." To this date, he is the only lifetime award recipient of the CTIC. Foell, who has a "shrine of sorts" of no-till history in his California garage, packed and shipped several mementos to No-Till Farmer in late July. I Farm Ugly Song Promotes No-Till A lot of no-tillers have seen the "Farm Ugly" bumper sticker promoting no-till with Gramoxone Super, but most no-tillers are not aware (or have long forgotten) that no-till was the subject of a country music song in the late 1980s, called "I Farm Ugly." You can listen to the song here. Foell recalls that a Chevron rep in...

A full order of fish and chips from Yorkshire Fish & Chips. Photo: Alayna Alvarez/Axios Hey friends, Alayna here. I'm back with another story nobody asked for. 🙃 What's happening: I'm 99% sure I found the biggest fish sticks in metro Denver. They hail from a seafood shop on Pecos Street near U.S. 36 that my fiancé and I stumbled upon one recent Saturday afternoon. Details: Yorkshire Fish & Chips may not look like much from the street, but this no-frills family-owned restaurant has been serving authentic homemade English fare for more than 50 years. Yorkshire's fish sticks — beer-battered Icelandic cod — come fried to crispy golden perfection, served in a humble paper tray atop a bed of hot "chips." Though the fries are forgettable (and could really use some salt, as could the fish), they're redeemed by the heaps of ultra-crunchy deep-fried batter bits dumped beneath them. By the numbers: The cod is cut into roughly 9.5-inch-lo...

Brad Pitt is letting it all hang out. The actor attended a Berlin screening of his forthcoming film "Bullet Train" on Tuesday in a casual choice of getup. Pitt, 58, sported a flowing brown skirt with a matching jacket and mauve linen button-up shirt. He paired the look with combat boots, exposing his shins — and a few rarely seen tattoos. The star has plenty of ink but doesn't often show it off, especially on the red carpet. Brad Pitt wore a skirt with matching cardigan and casual button-up shirt to a screening of his forthcoming film, "Bullet Train." AP; Getty One design appears to be a rhinoceros face and the other a human skull, though the meaning behind the two tats in unclear. Among the tattoos on Pitt's arms are the phrase "absurdities de l' existence" (French for "life is absurd"), his children's initials, an outline of Ötzi the Iceman and a Rumi quote ("There exists a ...
